Ten certificate designs, traditional and modern

Every design is drawn as fine vector linework and prints sharp at any size. Unlike a one-size certificate generator, each one is composed for a photo and for no photo. Two stay free forever; the other eight are Studio designs, free during launch. Compare all ten certificate designs in detail.

How to make a certificate of authenticity in four steps

This certificate of authenticity maker runs in your browser: no download, no blank canvas to fight with. The full step-by-step guide covers wording and record keeping.

  1. Step 1: Choose a design

Pick one of ten designs, five traditional and five modern. Every design has a layout with a photo and one without, at US Letter, A4 and A5.

  2. Step 2: Fill in the details beside the live certificate

Add the title, who made it, the year, medium and size. The certificate updates as you type, and long titles or names are fitted, never cut off.

  3. Step 3: Add a photo, logo and signature (optional)

Upload a JPEG, PNG or WebP photo of the work. The whole image shows by default; crop or rotate it if you like. Leave the signature line blank to sign by hand.

  4. Step 4: Review and download a PDF, PNG or SVG

Check the proof, then download. Designing needs no account; a free account is needed to download, so the certificate is saved and you can reprint it.

What to include on your certificate

A certificate of authenticity (often shortened to COA) records what the issuer states about one piece. Three things make it a certificate; the rest makes it useful years later, when the work is sold, insured or lent.

The form asks for these in this order and shows each one on the certificate as you type. Read more on what to include on a certificate.

Required

  • Who issues it and their role (artist, studio or gallery)
  • The title or a clear description of the work
  • A signed statement from the issuer

Encouraged

  • The creator, if it is not the issuer
  • Year made
  • Medium or materials
  • Dimensions, with units

Optional

  • A photo of the work
  • Edition number, such as 7/25
  • Certificate number and issue date
  • Signature, contact details and a QR code to your own page

Certificates for artwork, editions, photographs and handmade work

The fields change with the work. An original is one of one; an edition print carries its number in the run and a certificate number of its own.

Original or edition?

Original
One piece exists. The edition reads “Original, one of one”, and the certificate number identifies this certificate.
Limited edition
A fixed run. Number 7 of 25 prints as 7/25; keep the same total on every certificate in the run, and list artist proofs separately.
Open edition
No fixed total. Say so plainly instead of inventing a number, and still give each certificate its own number.

Each design is composed separately for US Letter, A4 and A5, so the type stays readable on the smaller sheet. Download a vector PDF with the fonts embedded and print it at 100% scale (turn off “fit to page”).

Download a PDF, PNG or SVG. There is no Word or Canva file; the PDF prints anywhere and you can come back to edit and download it again.

  • At home

Use a smooth card stock of about 200–300 gsm (80–110 lb cover). The low-ink option keeps the paper white and the ornament light for inkjet printers.

  • At a print shop

Send the PDF. Ask for an uncoated or cotton paper if you want the feel of a fine document, and check one proof before a run.

  • With foil

Download foil artwork for printer review: a ZIP with the full artwork, the foil layer on its own and a plain-English note. Your printer confirms foil, stock and tolerances. We do not print, foil or ship certificates.

What this certificate is, and what it is not

A certificate of authenticity is a statement by the artist, studio or gallery who issues it, and its value rests on who signed it and on matching records. This tool helps you make that document clearly and consistently. It does not authenticate, appraise or verify artwork, and it is not a registry. An optional QR code simply opens your own page. Frequently asked questions

Can I make my own certificate of authenticity?
Yes. A certificate of authenticity is normally issued by the artist or maker, or by a studio or gallery that legitimately represents the work. Pick a design, fill in the details of the piece, add a photo if you like, sign it and keep a copy of what you issued. Our step-by-step guide walks through it.
What should a certificate of authenticity include?
At minimum: who issues it and their role, the title or a clear description of the work, and a signed statement. Most certificates also give the creator, year, medium or materials, dimensions, a photo, an edition number if it is part of an edition, a certificate number and the issue date. See what to include on a certificate.
Is this certificate of authenticity template free?
Yes. During launch all ten designs and every download are free, and Gallery Minimal and Edition Rosette stay free forever. You can design and preview without an account; a free account (email and password) is needed to download, so your certificate is saved and you can reprint it. See pricing, or download free blank certificate PDFs with no account.
Can I add a photo of the artwork?
Yes. Upload a JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to 20 MB. The whole image is shown by default, you can crop or rotate it, and the editor tells you if the photo is too small to print sharply at the size it is placed. Every design also has a layout for certificates without a photo.
Is there a Word or Canva version?
No. You fill in the certificate here and download a PDF, a PNG or JPEG image, or an SVG vector file. The PDF prints at its exact paper size when you print it at 100%, and you can come back to edit and download it again.
What size should a certificate of authenticity be?
Most are printed on US Letter or A4 so they can be filed with the sale paperwork, or on A5 to travel in a portfolio or package. Each design here is composed separately for Letter, A4 and A5, so the text stays readable at the smaller size. Browse all ten certificate designs.
Does a certificate of authenticity prove a work is genuine?
No document proves that on its own. A certificate records what the issuer states about the work, so its value depends on who signed it and on matching records. This tool helps you make that document clearly and consistently; it does not authenticate or appraise artwork.
